I Fought the Law and the Law Won!

May 5, 2024    Ron Miller

As we continue our examination of the Book of Romans, Paul continues to emphasize to the Jews the futility of relying on the law to save them. He contrasts their extensive knowledge of the law and their insistence that they are superior to others because of that knowledge with their failure to adhere to it. He exposes their hypocrisy and, worse, the blasphemy they're committing against the Lord with their false virtue. Paul quotes the Old Testament to criticize these arrogant religious folks, saying, “God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” Fast forward to today, and the more things change, the more they stay the same!

Paul then goes on to level the playing field, putting Jews and Gentiles in an equal posture before a righteous God.

We all know the good news is coming, but it is vital to our integrity as Christians and our witness to the world that we don't just pass by Paul's words in these passages of Scripture. Let's walk through them together and take them to heart, not so we may feel shame, but so we can approach God with humility and gratitude for His amazing grace, which we may then freely extend to the fellow image-bearers of God we encounter daily.

Blessings to you and yours,

Ron
