Go and Give

In Romans 15:14-33, Paul speaks of his ministry to the gentiles and of his plans to visit. In the midst of his explanation, the apostle shares key information for us as we go out into the world.

He shares his philosophy, or his worldview – that belief system that urges him onward. Paul then describes his purpose and prowess, or his goals and abilities (all that he has received from God). Finally, he shares his priorities and his sense of perseverance. In short, Paul lays out a blueprint for going, for doing that which God has called us.

What's just as interesting as his mindset for going is the fact that Paul subtly describes an important facet of our Christian walk: giving. In talks of taking up an offering for the saints in Jerusalem. Paul was actively asking for donations to help those in need.

In these verses of chapter 15, Paul tells us to go and give. Go and do what you are called to do. It doesn't need to be some major expedition or grand adventure. In Paul's case, he was traveling and ministering to the gentiles. In your case, it could be as simple as going to work or visiting friends. It could be as life-altering as foreign missions. In whatever case, just go. In speaking of giving, Paul implies that it is a normal part of our lives. To give is what we do. It doesn't have to be huge amounts, but it does need to be.

This Sunday we will explore what Paul teaches concerning going and giving. It is my hope that we all walk away with a strong desire to go and to give, to actively walk in faith and charity, to courageously go and cheerfully give.

Come expecting to be encouraged in your faith and your walk with the Lord.

See you Sunday,
